- edition Īsāghūjī (al-Risāla al-Athīriyya fī l-manṭiq): copies and printed editions of the matn إيساغوجي (الرسالة الأثيرية في المنطق) — Athīr al-Dīn al-Mufaḍḍal b. ʿUmar al-Abharī أثير الدين المفضل بن عمر الأبهري (663/1265)
Details and sources
This record gathers the prints and regional copies of the matn reported by the different searches; the matn itself is the root of the catalogue. Prints to c. 1925 are compiled from GAL S I 842 (which refers to Calverley 1933) and TDV; not every print was seen, and dates are hijri as in GAL. Ottoman and Kurdish medreses read the matn with full marginal notes (the 2023 "tam kayıtlı" print). A Tatar manuscript of 1814 is at the Bolgar Academy. In Pakistan the Bushrā edition (vocalised, with Mughnī al-ṭullāb in the margin) is the 2nd-year (darja thāniya) text of the Wifāq al-Madāris Dars-i Niẓāmī; the Khairabadi Institute notes that "in most madrasas today the first text in logic taught is Isāghūjī". In Indonesia van Bruinessen (1990) calls it "widely available" in the kitab trade but not among the top 100 kitab of his 46-pesantren survey, where the Sullam is the logic text. Fanani & Widigdo (2022) report manuscript copies at Pesantren Sumber Anyar (Pamekasan, Madura), recorded in the 2010 Pamekasan inventory (Balai Litbang Agama Semarang), where it was taught from the early 19th century but no longer is (local tradition dates the copies to 1515; the articles to the late 18th–early 20th century); it is absent from Yasin al-Fadani's logic isnads.

- commentary Sharḥ Īsāghūjī ("Qāla aqūlu"; in India "Qāl aqūl") شرح إيساغوجي (قال أقول) — Ḥusām al-Dīn Ḥasan al-Kātī حسام الدين حسن الكاتي (760/1358–9)
Details and sources
Earliest known commentary: a short commentary in qāla … aqūlu form (Kashf: "sharḥ mukhtaṣar bi-l-qawl"; incipit al-ḥamdu li-llāh al-wājib wujūduhu al-mumtaniʿ naẓīruhu). Brockelmann (S) calls it Qāla aqūlu, and in India it is known as "Qāl aqūl": the incipit and layout of the 1847 Indian print match Kashf's description. Core text of the Ottoman, Kurdish, Volga-Tatar and Dagestani curricula, read with the gloss of Muḥyī al-Dīn al-Ṭālishī; Nuzhat al-khawāṭir records Qāl aqūl as the first rational-science text of a Farangī Maḥall curriculum (biography of a Lakhnawī scholar d. 1207). Hadiyya spells the nisba al-Sakātī, calls him a grammarian and calls the work a commentary on the "Mukhtaṣar Īsāghūjī". His region of activity is not settled by the sources. Tatar copy of 1814 (Nurgali madrasa) at the Bolgar Academy. Saʿīd Fūda's edition was first published by Dār al-Fatḥ, Amman, in 2013; a bookseller lists it under Dār al-Aṣlayn without a date, probably a later printing. Kashf's anonymous commentary "bi-qāl aqūl" with the incipit al-ḥamdu li-llāh alladhī jaʿala manṭiq al-insān is a different work, Mīr Īsāghūjī (mir-isaghuji).

Details and sources
Born in Karabakh, taught in Istanbul and İznik. TDV (after GAL I 609) calls it Sharḥ Kitāb al-Īsāghūjī; PIPDI lists it as a gloss on al-Kātī (and suggests a possible Yūsuf b. Muḥammad Khān al-Qarabāghī, d. 1035/1626); Hadiyya speaks of ‘ḥāshiyat al-Qarabāghī li-Īsāghūjī’, which Faṣīḥ al-Ḥaydarī glossed. GAL G c., S c. (Berlin 5233, Princeton 115). Hadiyya records a super-gloss on it by Faṣīḥ al-Ḥaydarī. GAL gives the name as Muḥammad (Yūsuf?) al-Qarābāghī; one search placed him in the Caucasus.

Kashf lists a gloss "li-l-Fāḍil al-Abīwardī" among the glosses on "Sharḥ al-Ḥusām" (al-Kātī), with no date or incipit; the same work cites an Abū al-Ḥasan Dānishmand al-Abīwardī elsewhere (identity not confirmed). The nisba points to Abīward in Khurasan. Not located.

Details and sources
The Wellcome copy's preface dedicates the gloss to Abū l-Mafākhir Mīrzā Muḥammad Ḥakīm al-Ghāzī, the Timurid ruler of Kabul (d. 1585), and names the author Muḥammad Ṣādiq. Nuzhat al-khawāṭir records that Bāqī billāh (born Kabul c. 971) studied with 'Mawlānā Muḥammad Ṣādiq al-Ḥalwāʾī' and followed him to Transoxiana, so the identification is likely but unconfirmed. The gloss later became a standard Volga-Tatar madrasa text (caucasus-volga region).

Details and sources
Taught and printed in Dagestan under the short title ‘Nuʿmān’; a copy also in a Tatar codex (Bolgar Academy, Garifullin collection). PIPDI lists a ‘Nuʿmānshāh’ among the glossators of al-Kātī, possibly the same author. Kept apart from the Kashf al-Shirwānī (shirwani-hashiya-kati) and from GAL's Nuʿmānshāh (numanshah-hashiya) because the dates do not fit; they may be the same.

- commentary Mīr Īsāghūjī (Ḥāshiyat Mīr Sayyid Sharīf ʿalā Īsāghūjī; a short commentary in qāla/aqūlu form) مير ايساغوجي — attributed to al-Sayyid al-Sharīf al-Jurjānī (Indian tradition); the UW and UPenn catalogues of the Delhi print name Ibrāhīm al-Shabistarī al-Naqshbandī; Kashf lists it as anonymous السيد الشريف الجرجاني (منسوب) (Jurjānī: 816/1413)
Details and sources
The standard "Mīr Īsāghūjī" of the Dars-i Niẓāmī. Incipit (Lahore 1284 print, inspected): al-ḥamdu li-llāh alladhī jaʿala manṭiq al-insān maẓhar al-maʿlūmāt. Attribution disputed. Indian tradition gives it to Mīr Sayyid Sharīf al-Jurjānī (Nuzhat: "Ḥāshiyat al-Sayyid al-Sharīf ʿalā Īsāghūjī"; a Cairo 1321 print under his name, GAL S III). El-Rouayheb notes that no early source gives al-Jurjānī such a commentary (it is absent from al-Sakhāwī and Kashf) and suggests another "Sharīf". The UW and UPenn catalogues of the Delhi print (c. 1870; GAL S no. 13) name Ibrāhīm al-Shabistarī al-Naqshbandī. Kashf records exactly this incipit for a commentary "bi-qāl aqūl" named directly after al-Shabistarī's tāʾiyya and its commentary, without naming an author (one reading takes it as al-Shabistarī's own commentary); that record is merged here. The Khairabadi Institute calls Jurjānī's commentary "Qāla-Aqūlu", but Indian prints titled "Qāl aqūl" are al-Kātī's commentary (kati-sharh). Its reception is almost entirely South Asian and Afghan.

Details and sources
Listed among his works in Nuzhat al-khawāṭir (born Rampur 1278/1861, head teacher of Madrasa ʿĀliya, Rampur). Two Digital Library of India scans from AMU titled 'Mera Eisaghoji' (Bareilly: Matba Naziri, '1876') are catalogued under his name, but the title page of part 1 reads 'Īsāghūjī maʿa ḥāshiya Yak-rozī' (i.e. al-Fanārī), and the 1876 date predates his career, so that record does not confirm a print of this gloss. GAL S III (no. 36) records a print, India 1309. Not to be confused with al-Kāfī, a commentary GAL S ascribes to Faḍl al-Ḥaqq al-Rāmpūrī (fadl-haqq-kafi).

Details and sources
Marginal gloss printed with Mīr Īsāghūjī in current Pakistani madrasa editions. Nuzhat (vol. 8) has ʿAbd Allāh b. Ṣābir ʿAlī al-Ṭūkī, who taught in Delhi, at the Oriental College Lahore, Dār al-ʿUlūm Lucknow and the Calcutta Madrasa ʿĀliya and died in Bhopal. Nuzhat lists only his taʿlīqāt on Ḥamd Allāh's Sharḥ al-Sullam, not this gloss, so the identification with the glossator is probable but not confirmed.

Details and sources
Mixed (mamzūj) commentary, incipit ḥamdan laka allāhumma. Kashf (and a Qalamos record) say the author noted at the end that he wrote it in one day, hence its Persian/Urdu name Yak-rozī ("one-day") in India and Pakistan. The standard Ottoman intermediate text, read with Qul Aḥmad's gloss; its opening section on jihat al-waḥda attracted separate glosses. Hadiyya also lists a "Sharḥ al-Risāla al-Athīriyya fī l-mīzān" under him (the same work). Nuzhat mentions "the well-known logic treatise called Yak-rozī" in the biography of Najm al-Dīn al-Sindhī (d. 1160), so it circulated in Sindh by the 12th/18th century; Maktaba tul Ishaat lists the Pakistani edition under the glossator Muḥammad ʿUbayd Allāh Qandahārī (ayyubi-hashiya). GAL S I 842 also lists a "Taftāzānī" commentary with a gloss al-Farāʾid al-Burhāniyya fī taḥqīq al-Fawāʾid al-Taftāzāniyya; El-Rouayheb shows this is a misreading of al-Fawāʾid al-Fanāriyya in a Delhi 1288/1871 lithograph.

Details and sources
Kashf: "the most subtle" of the glosses on al-Fanārī (incipit ḥamdan laka allāhumma). So closely tied to al-Fanārī's commentary that the two were printed and taught together; itself glossed many times (see the entries on qul-ahmad-hashiya). El-Rouayheb: apparently a 16th-century Azeri scholar. The Delhi 1288 print misreads al-Fanāriyya as al-Taftāzāniyya. Many copies, e.g. Berlin SBB Hs. or. 14803-7 (copied 1225/1810).

Kashf: an "easy" gloss compared with Qul Aḥmad's; incipit al-ḥamdu li-llāh alladhī zayyana al-adhhān (bi-iktisāb al-taṣawwur wa-l-taṣdīq, Īḍāḥ). Death date blank in Kashf and Īḍāḥ. GAL G d., S d. (GAL S files it as a super-gloss on Qul Aḥmad). The nisba Bulgarî (TDV) is not explained (Volga Bulgar or Balkan Bulgaria?); one search placed him in the Volga region, another left the region open. PIPDI also lists an al-Farāʾid al-Burhāniyya fī taḥqīq al-Fawāʾid al-Taftāzāniyya by "Shams al-Dīn Muḥammad b. Ḥamza al-Anṣārī", a confusion with al-Fanārī (see fanari-sharh).

Details and sources
Expanded recension (tatmīm) of the Īsāghūjī, "enlarged with examples". Known through Brockelmann (GAL G: "Neubearbeitung durch Beispiele vermehrt v. Abū l-Ḥasan ʿAlī b. ʿUmar al-Shāfiʿī"; GAL S adds the nisba al-Biqāʿī and prints the death date as 885/1440, a misprint), who makes it the base text of al-Sanūsī's commentary (sanusi-sharh); the modern scholar Fāris al-ʿAjmī says the same. MSS: Bibliothèque nationale d'Algérie 1307/2; Université Saint-Joseph Beirut 424/3; Dār al-Kutub al-waṭaniyya Tunis 4157; Princeton. Transmitted in North African isnāds (Ṣilat al-khalaf, Qaṭf al-thamar); used by al-Mallawī. Brockelmann lists it twice: as no. 3b (Algiers 1307) and as the commentary on al-Biqāʿī's recension "enlarged with examples" (Algiers 1352/1307, 1382). Brockelmann places this commentary on al-Biqāʿī's expanded recension, the Tatmīm Īsāghūjī (biqai-tatmim); Fāris al-ʿAjmī says the same. The 2025 edition nevertheless titles it a commentary "ʿalā matn Īsāghūjī".

Details and sources
A versification of the Īsāghūjī rhyming in tāʾ, on which he then wrote a commentary (Kashf; shabistari-taiyya-sharh). Āghā Buzurg (Dhayl Kashf al-ẓunūn) confirms the tāʾiyya and keeps it apart from the versification Mawzūn al-mīzān of Ibrāhīm b. Ḥusām (d. 1016). Kashf's cross-entries al-Tāʾiyya and Mawzūn al-mīzān give al-Shabistarī the title Mawzūn al-mīzān, which Hadiyya, autograph manuscripts and a 2025 study assign to Ḥusāmzāde İbrāhīm Efendi (husamzade-mawzun-al-mizan); Kashf may have merged two Ibrāhīms, and whether al-Shabistarī's tāʾiyya is a separate poem is not settled. PIPDI lists "ash-Shabistarī an-Naqshbandī" among the commentators; TDV's "İbrâhim eş-Şibrî" is probably the same name. Hadiyya: from Banīs (Bunays) near Aleppo; killed in Azerbaijan. Region given as Iran (Shabistar is in Iranian Azerbaijan); one search placed him in the Levant, another left it open.

Details and sources
The standard Egyptian commentary; al-ʿAṭṭār notes that in Egypt the Maṭlaʿ was 'the famous one' while al-Kātī and al-Fanārī dominated in Rūm (via al-Nādī). Taught at al-Azhar until the 1950s (TDV). Copies circulated far beyond Egypt: Timbuktu (Ahmed Baba Inst. no. 3368), Tunis (studied at the Zaytūna 1146/1733), the Horn of Africa (IslHornAfr/Beta maṣāḥǝft record LIT1019IHA, 3 MS records), Yemen. Many manuscripts in Khizānat al-turāth. Kashf opening: al-ḥamdu li-llāhi alladhī manaḥa aḥibbatahu bi-l-luṭf wa-l-tawfīq. TDV vocalises al-Muṭṭalaʿ. The main Egyptian/Azhar commentary; carries the largest set of Egyptian glosses. Named by Indonesian scholarship as the most widely circulated commentary on the Isaghuji; Fanani & Widigdo (2022) connect its spread in Indonesia to al-Ansari's place in the Shafi'i isnads of Indonesian scholars (Mahfudh al-Tarmasi, Kifayat al-mustafid). Fanani (2020) adds that al-Hifni's (al-Hafnawi's) hashiya on it is also known. Lecture series by al-Hazimi (Mecca) also follow this commentary.

Details and sources
Earliest of the Egyptian glosses listed by al-Nādī; "many later glossators relied on it"; al-ʿAṭṭār criticises it often and al-Mallawī used it without naming it. Catalogues disagree on the name (Muḥammad b. Muḥammad b. Muḥammad, d. 947, in some Khizāna records; Muḥammad b. Ibrāhīm in al-Nādī, other Khizāna records and GAL S III). GAL S III calls it Taʿlīqāt ʿalā Sharḥ Shaykh al-Islām. MSS: al-Azhar; King Faisal Center; Alexandria Municipal 8 (manṭiq); Makram. Studied philologically by Adiwidjajanto (2015).

Sulaymān al-Jarbī al-Maghribī — from the lectures of Abū al-Ḥasan ʿAlī b. Ibrāhīm al-Kīlānī al-Miṣrī سليمان بن عبد الرحمن الجربي؛ عن علي بن إبراهيم الكيلاني المصري (al-Jarbī: after 936/1529–30 (KOHD); M. Maḥfūẓ assigns the work to Dāwūd b. Ibrāhīm al-Talātilī al-Jarbī, d. 967/1560)
Details and sources
Notes "in the manner of a ḥāshiya" taken down from the lectures of ʿAlī b. Ibrāhīm al-Kīlānī, begun Wednesday 12 Ṣafar 913/1507 at the Jīʿāniyya madrasa in Būlāq (Cairo); the Jerban Ibāḍī author took them home, and the work became a standard text in Jerba and the Ibāḍī Maghrib (still read at the Zaytūna in the 1250s/1840s). Attribution disputed: the manuscript catalogues (Princeton, Ahlwardt, BSB/KOHD, Khizāna, Timbuktu) name Sulaymān b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Jarbī; Brockelmann (GAL G and S) records it as a Sharḥ Īsāghūjī by Sulaymān b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Gharbī (al-Ghirmī / al-Maghribī) ʿAlam al-Dīn, fl. c. 915/1509; Maḥfūẓ's Tarājim names Abū Sulaymān Dāwūd b. Ibrāhīm al-Talātilī (d. 967/1560), as do Fanani & Widigdo (2022), whose CE date 1507 is the date of the lectures; the King Faisal Center lists it under al-Kīlānī; Tawshīḥ al-dībāj (via Maḥfūẓ) gives a "Sulaymān al-Jarbī" who taught in Egypt and wrote a ḥāshiya on Īsāghūjī. Details and sources
Rajaz versification of the Īsāghūjī. Kashf calls it "an urjūza versifying Īsāghūjī" ("ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Sayyidī Muḥammad versified it, called it al-Sullam al-munawraq, then commented on it"), composed in 941 at the age of 21; Ahlwardt no. 21; GAL S versification a. Hadiyya lists the Sullam and his own Sharḥ al-Sullam. In West Africa the Īsāghūjī was "known and studied" in the form of this versification (Dan Tafa study); WAAMD records many copies and local commentaries (see the west-africa entries). In Indonesia the Sullam ("Sullamul Munauraq") is the most widely used logic textbook: van Bruinessen found it in 10 of 46 pesantren surveyed (1, 3, 1 and 5 in Sumatra, West, Central and East Java), at ʿālī level, with al-Akhḍarī's own sharḥ in the margin of the Indonesian print; Mastuhu found that of six major pesantren only Tebuireng taught logic, using the Sullam. Fanani (2020) presents it as covering the same core topics as the Īsāghūjī in verse, in somewhat more detail. Only the Sullam commentaries of regions that read it as their Īsāghūjī track (West Africa, Indonesia) are listed in this catalogue.

Details and sources
Included because Indonesia treats the Sullam as its Isaghuji track. It is the second logic text in van Bruinessen's top-100 ('Idlahul Mubham'): 7 of 46 pesantren (2 in Sumatra, 1 West Java, 1 Central Java, 3 East Java), at 'ali level. Van Bruinessen also lists, as often met in Indonesia: al-Akhdari's own sharh (also with al-Bajuri's glosses) and the commentaries of al-Quwaysini and of al-Mullawi with al-Sabban's glosses. Included because in Indonesia the Sullam and its commentaries are the Īsāghūjī track; in Egypt the Sullam commentaries form a separate track and the other Egyptian ones are not listed.

Bosnian/Balkan. Hadiyya. GAL S lists a gloss on al-Kātī by "Muṣṭafā b. Yaḥyā al-Mostārī" (Qılıç Ali 661): perhaps the same man. A Van YYÜ thesis studies "Mostarî's Sharḥ Īsāghūjī" (record could not be opened).

Hadiyya: of Lādhiqiyya origin, living at Kula (near İzmir), died on the road to Mecca before his father. Aynî: ‘Kulalı Sükûtî Mehmed Efendi’nin Câmiu’ş-şurûh’u’. Hadiyya (teacher at Ayasofya). One reading of Hadiyyat al-ʿārifīn attached this title to Muḥammad b. Ismāʿīl al-Rayḥānī (d. 1158), but in the Hadiyya text it stands in the entry of Sukūnī.

New logic text inspired by al-Abharī’s Īsāghūjī, written in Cyprus, then commented on by the author at Birgi. Copies: Hacı Selim Ağa 1273/11, Nicosia Sultan II. Mahmud 204/1 and 1636/2, Princeton (Mach 3190); commentary Süleymaniye İzmir 830/3, Akhisar Zeynelzâde. Not a commentary: a "new Isagoge" written in Cyprus in the manner of al-Abharī, about twice as long. Included because it is modelled on, and named after, the Īsāghūjī.

Details and sources
TDV: written in a few days while in Cyprus in 1159/1746; Köprülü III 321 (probably autograph), Beyazıt 3129/3, Sarajevo Gazi Husrev-beg 3285/2. Hadiyya calls him al-Qārisī al-Rūmī ‘resident in Egypt’. Criticises waḥdat al-wujūd in his examples (Altunya). PIPDI’s date 1192 and its suggestion of Qara Dāwūd are uncertain. GAL S lists no. 23 "Dāʾūd b. Muṣṭafā al-Qārisī" (Pet. AMK 923) and asks whether it equals no. 17 "Dāʾūd Ef. al-Fārisī, composed 1192/1778" (Leiden). Çapak & Özpilavcı mention his concise commentary.

Details and sources

Details and sources
Last major Ottoman commentary; Aynî: popular with students for its ease. Still the first logic text in present-day Kurdish-style medreses (İKAN curriculum; van Bruinessen’s ‘Muxnît Tulab’). Glossed by Mehmed Fevzi, al-Anjustāwī and al-Badawī al-Ḥalabī. Īḍāḥ and Hadiyya: by Maḥmūd b. al-Ḥāfiẓ Ḥasan al-Maghnīsāwī al-Rūmī (d. 1222), who also commented on al-Akhḍarī's Sullam. Hadiyya wrongly also lists a "Mughnī al-ṭullāb, ḥāshiya ʿalā sharḥihi" under al-Abharī himself. In Pakistani Wifāq madrasas the Bushrā Īsāghūjī is the standard 2nd-year (thāniya) text, with al-Maghnīsāwī as the marginal commentary. Maktaba tul Ishaat wrongly attributes Mughnī al-ṭullāb to Shaykh al-Hind Maḥmūd Ḥasan Deobandī, confusing 'Maḥmūd b. Ḥasan' al-Maghnīsāwī with the Deoband scholar. The Būṭī edition (footnote) gives al-Maghnīsī's death as 1222; its colophon names the compiler as "Maḥmūd ibn al-ḥāfiẓ Ḥasan al-Maghnīsī".
