Author of one of the earliest and most widely read glosses on al-Kātī’s commentary, long part of the madrasa curriculum in Anatolia.
Life
Al-Tālishī is known almost only through his gloss on al-Kātī’s . German manuscript catalogues name him Muḥyī al-Dīn al-Tālijī and date him to 884/1479; Adem Evmeş, following Nicholas Rescher’s history of Arabic , gives the same death date. His name is also read al-Tālishī; the digital text of Ḥājjī Khalīfa’s Kashf al-ẓunūn has the garbled form al-Tālithī.
A master’s thesis that edited his gloss describes it as one of the earliest glosses on al-Kātī’s , a work that stayed in the madrasa curriculum for a long time and became widespread in Anatolia after the seventeenth century. Its most characteristic feature, according to that study, is that it explains in detail why the is arranged the way it is.
Uncertain or disputed
- His dates disagree widely: 884/1479 (VOHD catalogue; Evmeş after Rescher), 887/1482 with a question mark (the Marmara University thesis), ‘1480’ (Tekin), while the Islamisation of Anatolia database says his gloss was composed in 1085 (1674–75), which would place him two centuries later.
- The form of his nisba: al-Tālishī or al-Tālijī.

A Berlin copy dated 1169/1755–56 marks al-Kātī’s text with a red qāla and the commentary with a red aqūlu. The modern editor of al-Kātī lists ‘the gloss of Muḥyī al-Dīn’ among the useful glosses on the commentary.gloss
Reception
Alaattin Tekin and Adem Evmeş describe al-Kātī’s with al-Tālishī’s gloss as one of the two most famous ‘commentary chains’ of the , the other being al-Fanārī with Qul Aḥmad.
