Ḥāshiyat al-Bājūrī ʿalā matn al-Sullam, with al-Anbābī's taqrīr in the margin, Cairo 1324/1906 baskısının Arapça metninden alıntı

By “grasping the single” is meant a grasp that is not bound to the external relation by way of yielding to it: either it is bound to no relation at all — the grasp of the subject alone, of the predicate alone, or of both without the relation between them — or it is bound to a relation that is not external.

What is meant is that it is called an argument (ḥujja); and it is so called because whoever holds fast to it overcomes (ḥajja) his opponent and defeats him.

Ders

The Sullam divides originated into the grasp of a single thing, which is (taṣawwur), and the grasp of a relation, which is (taṣdīq). Al-Bājūrī explains why the poet says “originated” (ḥādith): to leave out God's knowledge, which is not divided into kinds.

He then makes “the grasp of a single” exact. It is a grasp not bound to the external relation by way of yielding: the grasp of the alone, of the alone, of both without the relation between them, or of a relation that is not held as true. So the doubter and the one who only imagines a judgement have ; only the one who yields to the relation has an .

What leads to a is called a , and what leads to an an (ḥujja). Al-Bājūrī gives the reason for the second name: whoever holds fast to an argument overcomes (ḥajja) his opponent. He also notes that “the intelligent” (al-ʿuqalāʾ) in the poem means the people of this , the .
