البَصَائِرُ النَّصِيرِيَّةُ فِي عِلْمِ المَنْطِقِ

al-Baṣāʾir al-Naṣīriyya

ʿUmar b. Sahlān al-Sāwī · d. c. 540/1145

Al-Sāwī's Insights for Naṣīr al-Dīn is a concise and well-ordered manual of Avicennan logic, dedicated to Naṣīr al-Dīn Maḥmūd b. Abī Tawba, vizier of the Seljuq sultan Sanjar. In its preface al-Sāwī says he aims to clarify points left vague in earlier logic books, and it is close to Ibn Sīnā's Shifāʾ, Ishārāt and Najāt while reworking the modal syllogistic in places. Al-Suhrawardī and Naṣīr al-Dīn al-Ṭūsī cite al-Sāwī as 'the author of the Baṣāʾir'. Muḥammad ʿAbduh edited it with notes for the Azhar in 1898, and modern scholars have called it one of the clearest Arabic logic books after Ibn Sīnā.
