شَرْحُ تَهْذِيبِ المَنْطِقِ

Sharḥ Tahdhīb al-manṭiq (Mullā Jalāl)

al-Dawānī · d. 908/1502

Jalāl al-Dīn al-Dawānī's commentary on the logic part of al-Taftāzānī's Tahdhīb, left unfinished: it goes only as far as the simple modal propositions. It was nevertheless widely studied in Ottoman Turkey and Mughal India and drew many glosses, among them Mīr Zāhid al-Harawī's. In India, scholars of al-Dawānī's line made it, beside ʿAbd Allāh al-Yazdī's commentary, the usual way into the Tahdhīb, which together with the Shamsiyya and the Maṭāliʿ formed the core of logic teaching there in the sixteenth century. Al-Dawānī also glossed the conceptions part of Quṭb al-Dīn al-Rāzī's commentary on the Shamsiyya.
