المُخْتَصَرُ فِي عِلْمِ المَنْطِقِ

al-Mukhtaṣar fī ʿilm al-manṭiq

al-Sanūsī · d. 895/1490

A short handbook of logic by the Tlemcen theologian Muḥammad b. Yūsuf al-Sanūsī, built on al-Khūnajī's Jumal with additions, together with his own concise commentary. The commentary moves from the definition and subject of logic through signification, the five universals, propositions, opposition and conversion to the categorical and hypothetical syllogism, using Qur'anic and everyday examples, but leaves out the five arts (demonstration, dialectic and the rest). It was much commented on and glossed in North Africa and Egypt, among others by al-Ḥasan al-Yūsī, al-Wallālī, al-Bannānī and al-Bājūrī. Al-Sanūsī also commented on al-Khūnajī's Jumal, Ibn ʿArafa's Mukhtaṣar and the Īsāghūjī.
