شَرْحُ البَنَّانِيِّ عَلَى السُّلَّمِ

Sharḥ al-Bannānī ʿalā al-Sullam

al-Bannānī · d. 1194/1780 or c. 1211/1796 (sources differ)

A Moroccan commentary on al-Akhḍarī’s Sullam by Muḥammad al-Bannānī of Fez. Its author is named differently in the sources: the Fez lithograph calls him Muḥammad b. ʿAbd al-Salām al-Bannānī, while library authority records identify him as Muḥammad b. al-Ḥasan al-Bannānī (d. 1194/1780). It attracted glosses of its own, such as those of al-Mahdī b. al-Ṭālib Ibn Sūda (d. 1294/1877–78), printed in Fez in Maghribi script. It is the commentary to know for the North African reading of the Sullam, alongside the Egyptian ones of al-Mallawī and al-Damanhūrī.
