مِرْآةُ الشُّرُوحِ

Mirʾāt al-shurūḥ

Mullā Mubīn · d. 1225/1810

A full commentary on Sullam al-ʿulūm by Mullā Mubīn of Lucknow, which, as its title (‘the mirror of the commentaries’) says, reflects the debates of the earlier commentators. Asad Q. Ahmed dates it to 1200/1786 and calls it arguably the most lucid and extended exposition of the Sullam; its very clarity is said to have kept it out of the classroom, where harder texts were preferred. TDV lists it among the main commentaries, with several Lucknow and Kanpur printings. For a modern reader working alone it is one of the most useful guides to the Sullam, and Ahmed relies on it for the notes to his English translation.
