ضَوَابِطُ المَعْرِفَةِ وَأُصُولُ الِاسْتِدْلَالِ وَالمُنَاظَرَةِ

Ḍawābiṭ al-maʿrifa

Ḥabannaka al-Maydānī · d. 1425/2004

A modern Arabic handbook by the Damascene scholar ʿAbd al-Raḥmān Ḥasan Ḥabannaka al-Maydānī, who taught for about thirty years at Umm al-Qurā University in Mecca. As its title says, it joins three subjects: the conditions of sound knowledge, the principles of inference (the content of classical logic) and the rules of debate (ādāb al-munāẓara). It treats these subjects in continuous modern prose rather than as a commentary on an older matn. It is a convenient modern Arabic book for seeing logic and debate taught together, as they were in the madrasa.
