كِتَابُ النَّجَاةِ

al-Najāt (logic)

Ibn Sīnā · d. 428/1037

The Deliverance is a shorter compendium of Ibn Sīnā's philosophy whose first part is logic; much of its logic reflects his earlier views, though it stands methodologically close to the Shifāʾ. It is comprehensive but terse, and it leaves out dialectic, rhetoric and poetics and most of the hypothetical syllogistic. It defines logic as the instrument that protects the mind from error and treats conversion and the modal syllogism in a form later logicians quoted often. It became a standard reference, and al-Sāwī answered questions put to him on it.
