حَاشِيَةٌ عَلَى مِيرْ قُطْبِي

Ḥāshiya ʿalā Mīr Quṭbī

al-Siyālkūtī · d. 1067/1657

A super-gloss by the Mughal scholar ʿAbd al-Ḥakīm al-Siyālkūtī on al-Sayyid al-Sharīf al-Jurjānī’s gloss on Quṭb al-Dīn al-Rāzī’s commentary on the Shamsiyya; it is also known as Ḥāshiya ʿalā al-Kubrā or ‘ʿAbd al-Ḥakīm on Mīr Quṭbī’. TDV reports that it was printed more than forty times, in Istanbul, Delhi and Cairo, either in two parts (conceptions and assents) or together, and that a copy dated 1100/1689 was already in Ottoman hands. Siyālkūtī’s glosses were set texts in the advanced stages of madrasa study, especially in Ottoman lands, and in India his gloss tradition was continued by Mīr Zāhid and al-Bihārī. It is a good example of a work that travelled from India to Istanbul and Cairo.
