حَاشِيَةٌ عَلَى حَاشِيَةِ كُوجَكْ عَلَى تَحْرِيرِ القَوَاعِدِ المَنْطِقِيَّةِ

Ḥāshiya ʿalā Ḥāshiyat Kūchak

Qara Dāwūd · d. 948/1541

A super-gloss on the shorter (‘small’, Kūchak) gloss of al-Sayyid al-Sharīf al-Jurjānī on Quṭb al-Dīn al-Rāzī’s Taḥrīr al-qawāʿid al-manṭiqiyya, the standard commentary on al-Kātibī’s Shamsiyya; it is also called a gloss on Sharḥ al-Shamsiyya. TDV ascribes it to the Ottoman scholar Kara Dâvud of İzmit, who died in Bursa in Ṣafar 948/June 1541, but Kātib Çelebi held that it belongs to another Mawlā Qara Dāwūd, a pupil of al-Taftāzānī. Separate glosses on the parts on conceptions (taṣawwurāt) and assents (taṣdīqāt), recorded in manuscripts under the name Dāwūd b. Kamāl, are probably by the same author. The work shows how Ottoman students met the Shamsiyya: through Quṭb al-Dīn, read with al-Jurjānī, read with a further layer of glosses.
