إِيضَاحُ المُبْهَمِ مِنْ مَعَانِي السُّلَّمِ
Īḍāḥ al-mubham min maʿānī al-Sullam
al-Damanhūrī · d. 1192/1778
A short commentary on al-Akhḍarī’s Sullam by the Azhar scholar Aḥmad al-Damanhūrī, which TDV calls the most famous of its commentaries. As its title promises, it sets out to clear up what is obscure in the poem, and it explains the verses briefly and plainly, which made it a common first commentary for students. It is used far beyond Egypt; Fanani and Widigdo describe it as the introductory commentary on the Sullam read in Indonesian pesantren. For a beginner it is often the best companion to a first reading of the Sullam.
