التَّنْقِيحُ فِي المَنْطِقِ
al-Tanqīḥ fī al-manṭiq
Mullā Ṣadrā · d. 1050/1640
A short Arabic compendium of logic by Ṣadr al-Dīn al-Shīrāzī, the founder of the ‘transcendent philosophy’ (al-ḥikma al-mutaʿāliya). According to the description on Tahoor it is arranged in eight sections called ‘illuminations’ (ishrāq) that follow the order of the books of the Organon, from the Isagoge to the Sophistics, rather than the two-part plan of conception and assent common in the madrasa handbooks. WikiShia’s list of Ṣadrā’s works gives it in one entry with al-Lamaʿāt al-mashriqiyya; whether these are one work or two needs checking. It is worth knowing as the logic of a major philosopher whose metaphysics later dominated the Iranian seminaries.
