al-Urmawī · d. 682/1283

A handbook of logic by the Konya judge Sirāj al-Dīn al-Urmawī. It treats the classical topics in summary form and gives the five universals far more space than the Shamsiyya or the Tahdhīb. It was read as a madrasa textbook, was put into Persian with additions by Khiḍr Bey at the request of Mehmed II, and was mostly studied through Quṭb al-Dīn al-Rāzī's commentary Lawāmiʿ al-asrār and al-Jurjānī's gloss on it; Shams al-Dīn al-Iṣfahānī (d. 749/1349) also commented on it. With the Shamsiyya and the Tahdhīb it formed the core of advanced logic in Iran, the Ottoman lands and India.
