شَرْحُ الرِّسَالَةِ الشَّمْسِيَّةِ

Sharḥ al-Shamsiyya (al-Saʿdiyya)

al-Taftāzānī · d. 792/1390

Al-Taftāzānī's commentary on the Shamsiyya; the TDV describes it as covering the first part, on conceptions (taṣawwurāt). It draws on Quṭb al-Dīn al-Rāzī's commentary and on al-Kātibī's own larger Jāmiʿ al-daqāʾiq, and defends al-Kātibī's view that the subject matter of logic is known concepts and assents. Known in India as al-Saʿdiyya, it was glossed by ʿAbd al-Ḥakīm al-Siyālkūtī, and its preface by Khiḍr Shāh al-Menteşevī, Walī al-Dīn al-Qaramānī and Kemalpaşazade. Because the Quṭbī attracted far more glosses, its own weight is easily underrated.
