Manṭiq al-Mulakhkhaṣ

Fakhr al-Dīn al-Rāzī · d. 606/1210

Al-Mulakhkhaṣ (The Compendium) is al-Rāzī's summa of philosophy, and its logic part is one of the founding texts of post-Avicennan logic. It discusses the subject of logic in terms of secondary intelligibles, distinguishes reading propositions 'externally' and 'essentially' (khārijī and ḥaqīqī), treats assent as a compound of several cognitions and defends the fourth figure of the syllogism. Al-Kātibī wrote a commentary on it (al-Munaṣṣaṣ), and Ibn al-Labbūdī abridged it. Many of the questions and distinctions argued over in the Shamsiyya and its commentaries first appear here.
