تَلْخِيصُ مَنْطِقِ أَرِسْطُو

Talkhīṣ manṭiq Arisṭū

Ibn Rushd · d. 595/1198

Ibn Rushd's middle commentaries (paraphrases) cover the whole Organon: the Categories (c. 1164), De interpretatione (c. 1165), the Prior Analytics (c. 1166), the Topics (1168), Porphyry's Isagoge (c. 1170), the Posterior Analytics (1170), the Sophistical Refutations (c. 1174), the Rhetoric (1175) and the Poetics (c. 1176). They paraphrase Aristotle's text closely, and near the end of his life he also wrote a long commentary on the Posterior Analytics. These works are the last great expression of the Farabian Aristotelian tradition in Arabic; they had little following in the madrasa logic, which went the Avicennan way, but in Latin and Hebrew translation they shaped the study of Aristotle's logic in Europe.
