المُخْتَصَرُ فِي المَنْطِقِ

al-Mukhtaṣar fī al-manṭiq

Ibn ʿArafa · d. 803/1401

A short handbook of logic by Ibn ʿArafa al-Warghammī, who headed the Zaytūna mosque-university of Tunis; it is published in a modern edition together with al-Khūnajī's al-Jumal, the text his North African readers already knew. Al-Sanūsī wrote a commentary on it to explain its difficult passages. Ibn ʿArafa also brought logic into his lectures on the Qur'an, which his students recorded. The work is a witness to the Maghribī tradition of compact logic manuals between al-Khūnajī and al-Sanūsī; its contents still await closer study.
