تَحْرِيرُ القَوَاعِدِ المَنْطِقِيَّةِ فِي شَرْحِ الرِّسَالَةِ الشَّمْسِيَّةِ

Taḥrīr al-qawāʿid al-manṭiqiyya (al-Quṭbī)

Quṭb al-Dīn al-Rāzī · d. 766/1365

The commentary with which the Shamsiyya was most commonly read, finished in 1329 by al-Ḥillī's student Quṭb al-Dīn al-Rāzī al-Taḥtānī. It unpacks the tightly folded statements of the text and at times corrects them; its first 37 of the Shamsiyya's 120 lemmata take up about half the commentary, a focus on the opening topics that only grew later. It became a classic in its own right: it has been glossed more often than the Shamsiyya itself, by al-Jurjānī, al-Taftāzānī, ʿIṣām al-Dīn al-Isfarāyīnī, al-Dawānī, al-Dasūqī and others. Together, the Shamsiyya and this commentary mark the level of logic most madrasa scholars aimed to reach.
